FAQs

Q?

Do I have to dress in drag?

A.

No.  Whether you'd like to come in drag or just to come and see all of the amazing looks, we recommend keeping the theme in mind. Guests should dress however they're inspired to dress. Since DragOn was created to be a drag ball we highly suggest trying it! You'll have more fun.

Q?

What about makeup?

A.

There are 3 options for beginners...

Option 1) Hire a makeup artist. There are so many places you can go in the city to get your makeup done. We recommend MAC because artists at their locations often do drag as well. Don't be afraid to ask and look into it a few weeks ahead of time so you can make an appointment. Want something more private? Ask around about makeup artists who will do house calls. Makeup artists generally cost $100 +.

Option 2) Get a talented friend to do it. Maybe you know someone who is great with makeup who would LOVE to turn you into a lady for a night? Pop some champagne and have fun with it. This is probably the most affordable option.

Option 3) Get creative and do it yourself. If you're gonna go this route we recommend watching lots of Youtube drag makeup tutorials. There are hundreds of options. Practice a bit before the big day as well and remember it always takes a bit longer than expected when you're learning.

Q?

Where does the money go?

A.

All proceeds go directly to GMHC. We pride ourselves in being resourceful so our production costs remain low. In fact only 10% of funds raised go toward event costs which is great because 90% of our fundraising goes directly to the charity. Here's the difference a ticket makes...

$100 will pay for:
25 hot meals for people living with HIV in the GMHC dining room
4 weeks of groceries for a family affected by HIV
8 HIV tests

$1000 pays for
250 hot meals
40 weeks of groceries
80 HIV Tests

Q?

Should I bring a friend?

A.

Our party is totally inclusive. Guests who come for the first time most certainly return the next year with more friends. We welcome everyone so come looking forward to making new friends!

Q?

Is my ticket purchase tax deductable?

A.

Yes! GMHC is a 501c3 non profit organization.
